Chaperone Policy

The Policy sets out the process to be followed to ensure that Technoplex Ltd provides a safe, comfortable environment where patients and staff can be confident that best practice is being followed at all times and the safety of everyone is of paramount importance.

Policy

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they consider one is required.

The chaperone may be a family member or friend, but on occasion a formal chaperone may be preferred.

Patients are advised to ask for a chaperone if required at the time of booking an appointment, if possible, so that arrangements can be made and the appointment is not delayed in any way.

All staff are aware and have received the appropriate information in relation to this policy.

Checklist for Chaperones

  • Chaperones may be considered for emotional comfort and reassurance for the patients
  • Assist in undressing
  • Act as an interpreter
  • As protection to the staff member against allegations / attack
  • If the chaperone is a patient's companion, they must be over the age of 18 years and be willing to be present
  • The ethnic religious and cultural background of some patients may restrict them being touched by others and this must be taken into consideration.
