Dexa scan was very interesting and James was very knowledgable and explained all the results in an easy to understand way. Would recommend to anyone interested in body composition or starting their weight loss journey.

Arthur is amazing - professional and positive and precise about the details.

This was a really useful exercise. I'm a 65 year old bloke and I had the body composition, 3D scan, DEXA Scan, RMR and Vo2 Max bundle. I wanted to know how I could improve my running performance, what my physical characteristics were in relation to achieving that aim, and what I needed to do to improve. The data generated by the tests was far better than anything I'd received from either the NHS or private health screenings I'd had years ago ex. I now have benchmarks to work against. Cait Bunn ran my tests. She is high high level cross fit competitor and sports science graduate, and was therefore able to give me really useful tips around my diet and exercise routine, so that I can achieve my aims. Very interesting and very useful. I can now have a plan! Cheers!

Arthur gave a clear and detailed overview of the scan process and results. Left feeling positive about improvements I can make to my health. Look forward to my follow up in 6 months.

A really great experience at BodyView Southampton with Cait. To start with, I was nervous about the vo2 but Cait immediately made me feel really relaxed and confident. She explained my report very clearly, and I'm excited about how I'm going to use this information to step up my training and really get the best out of it. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely be returning! 10/10!

Both my Wife and I booked scans at BodyScan City. It was a flawless service from booking online through the scanning process to a thorough discussion of scan results. Arthur’s knowledge and deep understanding of the process enabled us to understand the clear implications, for our health, of the relatively complex data that the scan produces. We learned so much from the post-scan discussion and every question we had was answered in depth and we received excellent guidance/suggestions for some ‘next steps’. Based on our experience this time, we will definitely be booking a follow-up session to chart the changes we intend to make

Limited Sensors: Smartwatches typically rely on sensors like accelerometers, heart rate monitors, and GPS trackers. While these sensors can provide data for basic fitness tracking, they are not sophisticated enough to measure metabolic rates, body composition, or cardiovascular fitness accurately.
Lack of Specialised Technology: Tests such as RMR, VO2 Max, FatMax, and DEXA scanning require specialised equipment and technology that are not present in smartwatches. For example, RMR testing often involves indirect calorimetry, which measures oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production to determine metabolic rate. Smartwatches lack the necessary hardware and algorithms to perform such complex measurements.
Calibration and Validation: Accurate testing methods require rigorous calibration and validation processes to ensure reliability and consistency of results. Dedicated medical devices and laboratory-grade equipment undergo extensive testing and validation procedures to meet industry standards. Smartwatches, on the other hand, may not undergo the same level of scrutiny and provide less reliable data for medical or clinical purposes.
User Variability: Individual factors such as skin colour, body composition, and movement patterns can affect the accuracy of data collected by smartwatches. Since smartwatches are designed for general consumer use, they don’t account for these variations in the same way that specialised medical devices do.
Regulatory Considerations: Medical-grade testing equipment must meet stringent regulatory requirements to ensure safety, accuracy, and reliability. Smartwatches are not typically regulated as medical devices and may not adhere to the same standards, raising concerns about the accuracy and consistency of the data they provide for clinical or diagnostic purposes.
In summary, while smartwatches offer convenient fitness tracking features, they are not equipped to perform specialised tests like RMR, VO2 Max, FatMax, or DEXA body composition analysis.
Here is an example fitness report for an RMR Metabolic test, VO2 Max Test, and 3D scan. Obviously the contents and results will differ considerably depending on what tests you have done.
