I booked online and the process was very easy with clear instructions. I attended the Bristol centre. It’s in the middle of Bristol with a large car park near by which cost me £2.40. It’s in a shared services building and the receptionist had me sign in and directed me to a nice waiting area in the lobby. Lilly came down shortly and took me up to the testing area, she offered me use of the toilet along with a drink. The induction process was really good explaining to me what was going to happen she also noticed I had reflective logo on my shorts and offered me a gown to wear which was really kind. I was weighed and had my height measured before going into the machine Lilly spent the time to make sure I was well positioned. The scan took about 3 minutes After the scan Lilly went through the results with me explaining each step and what it meant. This wasn’t the first dexa I have had. I have scored it a 4 as I am not sure how accurate the results are it had my body fat at 11% where as previously been leaner than currently as just off a bulk and had higher body fat. I was expecting off current condition to be between 16-20%. I have booked another one so will see what that comes back as in 3-6 months

Just takes a few minutes and then the results were very clearly explained by Kevin. Report is really clear and the time spent to review and agree areas to work on was valuable.

I recently visited the Body View Guilford and was genuinely impressed by the entire experience from start to finish. Jack was so welcoming, knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process. The facility was clean, modern, and well-organized. The scan itself was quick, non-invasive, and surprisingly insightful. I received a detailed breakdown of my body composition that was easy to understand and extremely helpful for setting fitness and health goals. What stood out most was how he took the time to explain my results and answer all my questions with patience and clarity. This service is perfect for anyone looking to track progress, improve wellness, or just gain a better understanding of their body. Highly recommended!

Limited Sensors: Smartwatches typically rely on sensors like accelerometers, heart rate monitors, and GPS trackers. While these sensors can provide data for basic fitness tracking, they are not sophisticated enough to measure metabolic rates, body composition, or cardiovascular fitness accurately.
Lack of Specialised Technology: Tests such as RMR, VO2 Max, FatMax, and DEXA scanning require specialised equipment and technology that are not present in smartwatches. For example, RMR testing often involves indirect calorimetry, which measures oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production to determine metabolic rate. Smartwatches lack the necessary hardware and algorithms to perform such complex measurements.
Calibration and Validation: Accurate testing methods require rigorous calibration and validation processes to ensure reliability and consistency of results. Dedicated medical devices and laboratory-grade equipment undergo extensive testing and validation procedures to meet industry standards. Smartwatches, on the other hand, may not undergo the same level of scrutiny and provide less reliable data for medical or clinical purposes.
User Variability: Individual factors such as skin colour, body composition, and movement patterns can affect the accuracy of data collected by smartwatches. Since smartwatches are designed for general consumer use, they don’t account for these variations in the same way that specialised medical devices do.
Regulatory Considerations: Medical-grade testing equipment must meet stringent regulatory requirements to ensure safety, accuracy, and reliability. Smartwatches are not typically regulated as medical devices and may not adhere to the same standards, raising concerns about the accuracy and consistency of the data they provide for clinical or diagnostic purposes.
In summary, while smartwatches offer convenient fitness tracking features, they are not equipped to perform specialised tests like RMR, VO2 Max, FatMax, or DEXA body composition analysis.
Here is an example fitness report for an RMR Metabolic test, VO2 Max Test, and 3D scan. Obviously the contents and results will differ considerably depending on what tests you have done.
